Frequently Asked Questions
We know family law can feel overwhelming—and sometimes, just getting clear answers makes all the difference. Below you’ll find thoughtful responses to the questions we hear most often, designed to help you feel informed, prepared, and empowered as you move forward.

How does divorce mediation work for resolving holiday disputes in NC?
Mediation is one of the best tools we have in North Carolina to avoid holiday courtroom battles.
Here’s how it typically works:
- Both parties meet with a neutral mediator, either in person or via Zoom.
- The mediator doesn’t take sides — their job is to help you reach an agreement that keeps the kids’ needs front and center.
- You’ll discuss specific issues:
- Christmas and winter break scheduling
- travel plans
- expenses
- communication expectations
- You stay in control of the outcome. A judge doesn’t make the decision — you do.
If you reach an agreement, your attorney can turn it into a binding Consent Order or Parenting Agreement.
